SAERA'S NETWORKING

Being an only child makes my daughter a little bit or shall I say a whole lot BOSSY. And she just refuses to share. And she just grabs whatever she wants. And cries when she don't get them. Tried showing her the ropes, scolding her even and let her cry herself out just so she'd learn her lesson. But to no avail. I think intervention of peers her age is necessary at this stage.

Me being me, I started asking Juwita, a fellow Malaysian (cos she married a local thus hv an upperhand on what's where) if there exist an Expat society somewhere that would get together for playdates. Voila!

That's how I came about to meet the first host, Mdm Mehroon. Lovely, lovely lady. Very hospitable. I'd vouch for her amiability any day even just after one meeting.
And ofcourse there were other moms. There's Anna, Shaheen, Katerine, Uzma and a few others I've yet to familiarize myself with their names (my apologies ladies. I am a little deficient with names.) All delightful ladies. Made me feel so welcome.

There was artwork for the older children, area where babies can roll around in boxes of toys, ball game for the boys and ofcourse hi-tea for the mommies. Surprisingly, despite being her first time, Saera was well behaved. She even gave me some time to mingle and not make a fuss. And I bet she had lotsa fun cos the minute she got in the car she fall flat into deep slumber (hmm.. gotta take her more to these)

Well, thank you all. Thanks for the hospitality and the warmth and the fun. I'm certainly looking forward to the next session and I know Saera is too.

DINNER @ ROASTERS

I am a big fan of good steaks. And in Karachi, I'd go only to 2 places which I feel so far serves fair steaks (when I say fair, I mean non-localised taste) - Gunsmoke and Roasters. The former better than the latter (I've not tried steaks at the hotels yet).

Tonite I'm here though cos gunsmoke's yet to open for dinner and I'm already famished. My first time here was last May on Mother's Day as well as My Birthday (yeah it was a double celebration for me - much to hubby's despair cos he's gotta get me double the presents.. :P). Then, the food was a little too salty to my taste.

However this time I ordered the mushroom steak - medium well (just as I like it), mushroom soup in a bowl made of bread - okay but can't beat my favourite @ pizza UNO back home, prawn poppers - such a letdown after u've tasted the Tony Romas version and fresh apple juice. My dinner this evening rounded to approximately PKR800 that's about MYR32.65 or USD9.51. Okay by Malaysian standards for such a place and cheap by American's.

Would I recommend? Yeah I suppose. I'd return. Nothing superb but by Karachi standards, they're there alongside Chilli's in Kuala Lumpur. I mean the ambiance is pro relaxation. Music's not extremely loud like some other places here. Only thing is, it's located on the first floor and no servicing elevator is available. So if u hv a very bad sprain, I'd say think again about getting here.

PS - If u do decide to patron here, the address is 10-C, 2nd Commercial Lane, Zamzama Boulevard, Phase V, DHA. Tel No +92 213 5302204

A NITE IN SHERATON

From day one when we rented our premise, it was already infested with termites. My landlord being his 'extremely efficient' self (sense the sarcasm here) took 6 months to arrange the treatment and only after I've fully unpacked all my boxes.

If having to remove all my belongings from the closet and emptying my whole kitchen is not bad enough, I even had to vacate the house for 17hrs minimum to accommodate the fumigation exercise. Being a foreigner, ofcourse it is implied that I have no relatives
living nearby who could take us in, so we had to turn to the hotels.

Since hubby's office is located at the Sheraton Annex building, we decided to stay in Sheraton for the nite. So along we go lugging our little precious who carried 2 suitcases filled with sterilizer, warmer, and other baby supplies everywhere she goes for sleepovers (which is why i don't travel much these days - imagine the hassle).

Much to my relief, seeing that Sheraton recently
refurbished their room, our stay was very much pleasant (which I can't say for all the hotels I've stayed in). The complimentary fruit platter upon entering our room was very welcoming and their personnel were proficient enough to ensure a smooth and swift check in. But what I like most about the room we stayed in was the bedding. LOVED the feather pillow, LOVED the sheets, LOVED the duvet, LOVED the good nite rest that I got. The flatscreen hanging on the wall also helped a lot :P And hubby agrees.

I'd say
shud we need to vacate our house temporarily again, I won't hesitate to return to Sheraton.

HUMMUS ANYONE?

I was first introduced to Hummus by a very dear friend when she invited me over for dinner at a lebanese restaurant back home. No! No! Hummus is not a hunk.. :P Hummus is a very popular Middle Eastern dip that is used as an appetizer and served with pita bread. It is made of chickpea and tahini (a paste from sesame seeds). Managed to google some recipes but hv yet to try them. Once tried will certainly post it here.

The Hummus @ Bar-B-Q Tonite

In Karachi so far I've found 3 outlets that serve this lovely dip of mine. And of the 3, I love the ones at BBQ Tonite MOST! And I enjoy having hummus amidst the open air on the roof top of the premise. As the name would suggest, their specialty is basically flame grilled food. Hubby seems to like their jumbo prawn a lot but since I'm very much a meat person, I hv a liking for their afghan tikka. However, for a group of 6-8, I'd highly recommend their Special Platter.

Locating the restaurant will not be an issue simply because it is this multi-storeyed building somewhere near the sea-shore. And no reservation is necessary (though encouraged if u want the roof top) since they can accommodate easily 800 - 1000 pax at a time. Here's a link to their site should you decide to hv an in depth peek of the food they serve, the price range, views of the restaurant etc etc.
Do I frequent here? Well, like I said, I'm a huge big fan of Hummus.
